Accelerating Wound Healing: A Dual Approach with Red Light Therapy and Auriculotherapy

Red Light Wound Blog Feature

In the quest for innovative and non-invasive healing methods, two therapies have gained attention for their abilities to speed up the wound healing process: Red Light Therapy and Auriculotherapy (the non-invasive form of auriculotherapy is known as ear seeding).

By harnessing the power of red light therapy and targeted ear pressure points, these therapies offer a complementary approach to traditional wound care. In this article we explore how to combine these two therapies.

What Are Photobiomodulation and Red Light Therapy?

Photobiomodulation, more commonly called as phototherapy, is a treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to interact with tissue and accelerate the healing process.

Red Light Therapy typically combines wavelengths of light in the 600 and 850 nm range providing a non-invasive method that promotes tissue repair, reduces inflammation, and alleviates pain.

According to research, such as the study found at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), Red Light Therapy has been demonstrated to have significant biological effects on the body, positively influencing the wound healing process.

The Positive Biological Effects of Photobiomodulation

Photobiomodulation has a range of positive biological effects on the body. It can help to increase circulation, stimulate collagen production, and enhance the body’s natural regenerative processes. These effects collectively contribute to faster wound healing, reduced scarring, and minimized inflammation.

Suitable Applications for Wound Healing

Red Light Therapy and Auriculotherapy can be particularly beneficial for a variety of wounds and injuries, including:

  • Injuries and wounds

  • Post-surgical wounds

  • Burns

  • Ulcers

  • Sports injuries

  • Diabetic ulcers

  • Bug Bites

How to Choose a Red Light Therapy Device

Choosing the right red light therapy device can seem daunting, but it's all about knowing what to look for. Here are some key features to consider:

✔️ Optimal Wavelength: Aim for red light at around 600nm plus infrared light at around 850nm, the sweet spot for deep tissue healing.

✔️ Power Density: More power means less time needed per treatment, but balance is crucial. We recommend an irradiance around 200 mW/cm2 if you're applying it directly on the skin.

✔️ Treatment Area Coverage: Match the device size with the area you want to treat – it's all about focus.

✔️ FDA Clearance: While not all high-quality devices are FDA-cleared, such clearance can provide peace of mind regarding the device's safety and efficacy.

✔️ Real Stories: Look for reviews or testimonials that resonate with your needs.

✔️ Warranty and Customer Support: A good warranty and responsive customer support reflect the manufacturer's confidence in their product and their commitment to your satisfaction.

Remember, the goal is to find a device that you'll feel comfortable and confident using, one that fits into your daily routine and helps you achieve your wellness objectives.

What Not to Get

We do not recommend getting cheap red light therapy devices from sources like Amazon. These low priced devices may seem more affordable but are underpowered (4-5 mw/cm2). Without adequate irradiance it will not have any biological effects.

If a device does not list their irradiance in mw/cm2 do not buy it! It's probably under powered.

Case Study: Speeding Up Healing of Hand Wound

My son fell from his e-scooter and sustained significant wounds on his hands, in particular his left hand. After we got him checked out urgent care, the next day we started red light therapy for 60 minutes daily with the Novaalab Deep Healing pad.

Using this device resulted in noticeable improvements in wound healing, including reduced scabbing, swelling, and faster reknitting of the skin.

Below you'll see photos of my son’s wounds on his hands. These photos showcase the therapy’s effectiveness with noticeable improvements in swelling within 7 days and significant improvement in pain, swelling and scabbing within 14 days.

Additionally, he wore the ear seeds pain protocol and we added the corresponding points on each for hands.

Using Auriculotherapy to Direct Healing

Auriculotherapy complements Red Light Therapy by utilizing ear seeds to apply pressure on specific points on the ear that correspond to the body part where the wound is located. This method is based on the principles of acupuncture and can help direct the body’s healing focus to the wound.

By applying ear seeds on the exact ear point related to the injury, this therapy can enhance the healing process and provide targeted relief.

To harness the full potential of Auriculotherapy, consider purchasing an Auriculotherapy Chart.
