Ear Seeds & Auriculotherapy Promising Treatment for Tinnitus Sufferers

Tinnitus Blog Post Feature

Ear seeds are a promising new way to address the symptoms of tinnitus. They are safe, non-invasive, chemical-free, and you can do them at home.

Increasing Cases of Tinnitus

Roughly 10% of Americans experience tinnitus, which is the ringing or buzzing sound heard in the ears when there isn't any external or ambient noise present. It can be a symptom of an underlying health condition, or it can occur on its own.

Either way, it’s often associated with other symptoms like headaches and dizziness.

Tinnitus can be caused by damage to the inner ear—the part that senses sound—or damage to the auditory nerve, which sends signals from your inner ear to your brain. This can be due by traumatic noise exposure at work, at play, or over an extended period of time.

It can also be related to problems with blood flow throughout your body (like coronary artery disease).

It is associated with age related hearing loss which causes changes within your ear canal that decrease its ability to transmit sound vibrations properly (known as presbycusis).

Unfortunately, there has been little in the way of help from the Western medical community for tinnitus. Most people are told to wait and see with the hope it will resolve on its own over time.

Can ear seeds & auriculotherapy help?

The short answer -- yes, chances are good this can help...

But, what exactly are auriculotherapy and ear seeds?

Auriculotherapy is the stimulation of specific points on the ear to elicit a therapeutic response in another area of the body.

The ear acts like a switchboard to the brain. When a point on the ear is stimulated, it sends a signal to the brain that is then transported to the area of the body being treated. In the case of tinnitus, we recommend points related to the vagus nerve and the areas of the brain related to hearing.

Ear seeds are a tool that can be used to stimulate the points for tinnitus.

They are safe, natural and noninvasive, sitting on the surface of the ear and held in place with a patch of adhesive tape. They are also very effective in treating a wide range of conditions including headaches, dizziness, anxiety, depression, stress and insomnia.

Branches of the vagus nerve also innervate the ear. There is evidence that transcutaneous electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve through the ear can relieve tinnitus, anxiety, depression, and headaches, too.

Ear seeds can also stimulate the vagus nerve and are much more accessible without requiring expensive medical devices.

While ear seeds are a promising new option to address tinnitus at home, the long-term results have not yet been studied in large groups of people with tinnitus. Individual case studies have shown them to be helpful in relieving tinnitus.

Ear seeds are inexpensive and relatively easy to use. All you need is a kit with ear seeds, tweezers, and a chart with appropriate point locations. Contact your local Ear Seeds Ambassador for an ear seeds treatment or home care kit.

Everyone responds differently to ear seeds stimulation with some noticing immediate effects. For others it may take days or weeks for the ear seeds to bring homeostasis or balance back to the area of the body that is affected.

Ear seeds protocol for tinnitus

  • First, we want to stimulate the branches of the vagus nerve by applying an ear seed to point zero on each ear.

  • Next, apply corresponding points for the inner ear and the temple.

  • It may be necessary to try different points related the brain and hearing.

Point location charts and videos are available in the A to Z Conditions—a course inside of Thrive Ear Seeds Club, which you can get access to if you sign up as an Ear Seeds Ambassador.

Continue using ear seeds daily for 4-6 weeks to allow the body to come back into homeostasis (balance). You can wear ear seeds up to 5 days in a row, then it is recommended to remove them and allow the ears to "breathe" for 2 to 12 hours before reapplying.

When it comes to tinnitus, some will experience near complete relief while others will notice a lessening of symptoms and an ability to tolerate the tinnitus better. Depending on the root cause of tinnitus, these changes may or may not be long-lasting.

Auriculotherapy with ear seeds is a promising new method for addressing the symptoms of tinnitus.

Because it's safe and can be done at home it's an easy way to see if tinnitus relief is possible. A good starting point would daily ear seeds application for 4-6 weeks.
